Contract
Writing For Purchasing - University Of Houston
Clear Lake
Center for Advanced Management Programs (Camp)
For commercial
purposes, contracts are used primarily to create a record
of the terms of agreement between parties and to protect
the legitimate
interests of those parties. Striking the appropriate
balance between these
is the challenge, often unappreciated, of the person
drafting the contract.
This course is designed to help those involved in all
stages of the contracting
process. The potential conflicts between commercial and
legal interests are
addressed and we'll suggest methods of rationalizing, if
not satisfying, the
objectives of both perspectives.

Discovering
Supply Management's Social Conscience
Hosted By Aramco Services Company
A supply professional needs only to look at the front
page of the Wall Street
Journal to be reminded of the importance of social
responsibility. Ethical improprieties
concerning accounting and finance, as well as safety,
environmental, and human
rights issues often make front-page news. Conversely,
companies that have exemplary
records in these areas of corporate social responsibility
(CSR) can market their efforts to
customers, shareholders, employees, and other
stakeholders including suppliers. As a key
interface with suppliers' service providers in supply
chain areas such as transportation and
logistics, the supply management function can play an
important role in an organization's CSR
efforts. This satellite seminar examines the types of
activities that supply managers can engage
in to support their organizations' CSR initiatives, and
how to initiate, sustain and measure the
results of a CSR program.
Time: 9:00 AM - 1:30 PM (Please arrive around
8:15 AM for sign-in)

Improving
Purchasing Performance - University Of Houston
Clear Lake
Center for Advanced Management Programs (Camp)
Technical knowledge on
its own is useless, unless buyers have the skills to put
that
knowledge into action. Buyers must be able to sell their
ideas, interact with and serve
internal clients, as well as negotiate long-term and
complex agreements with sole and
single sources. They also need to report results in terms
that top management
understands, play a larger role in the strategic
dimensions of their business, and
advance the interest of their firm in every action taken
? doing it more quickly and
effectively than ever while minimizing costs.
This elective course complements the more technical buyer
training curriculum. In
addition to acquiring new skills to balance the needs of
the firm with those of suppliers,
buyers will learn how to identify, understand, and manage
the involvement of
nontraditional purchasing personnel in the purchasing
process.
