Mission Statement

The mission of the Professional Development Committee is to enhance professionalism among the general membership through education, and professional certification.

In achieving our mission of professionalism we will utilize, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Organizing and broadcasting events of educational value, from both a local and national level, to membership

  • Arranging pre-meeting presentations as part of the educational process

  • Administering the Student Scholarship and Student Paper contest for Purchasing students attending University of Houston-Downtown (UHD)

  • Maintaining a mentoring and internship program with the UHD Student Purchasing Association
    Hosting the annual UHD Purchasing Roundtable

  • Continuing to provide the latest information concerning the A.P.P. and C.P.M. certifications

Maintaining the database of continuing education points for the membership

 

 

Certification & Accreditation Information
Two Professional Designations Offered by ISM

Accredited Purchasing Practitioner (A.P.P.)

ISM offers two professional designations. The Accredited Purchasing Practitioner (A.P.P.) program is for entry-level buyers or others primarily engaged in the operational side of the purchasing and supply function, such as identifying requirements, preparing solicitations and agreements, negotiations, technology, quality, and maintaining relationships. The A.P.P. is also relevant for those involved in purchasing and supply support activities and supply teams. The modules a candidate passes to receive the A.P.P. can be applied toward the C.P.M. designation.


Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.)

The Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) program is designed for experienced purchasing and supply managers. It focuses on managerial and leadership skills, plus a variety of specialized functions (e.g., sourcing analysis, supply and inventory management, forecasting) designed to enhance the value of procurement and supply management within an organization. It also covers the operational aspects of the purchasing and supply function, such as identifying requirements, preparing solicitations and agreements, negotiations, technology, quality, and maintaining relationships.

Both programs are designed for those working in any of the private, public or nonprofit work sectors.

Tuition Reimbursement Information

NAPM is first and foremost an educational organization. In the structure of NAPM, the Professional Development Committee is responsible for coordinating the educational opportunities for the membership. In addition to the various seminars, the material available in our library, and the student programs for UH-Downtown, NAPM Houston’s Pro-D Committee also administers the Tuition Reimbursement Program for NAPM-Houston members in good standing attending any accredited college or university. Student Paper Winners

The Student Scholarship Program Research Paper Writing Competition is an activity NAPM-Houston sponsors to encourage a better understanding of purchasing among college students. The program benefits students through cash awards for academic research in topics related to purchasing, colleges and universities through local recognition of outstanding student achievement, and the association through education of its members and recruitment of the best students into the profession.

The major objectives of the program are to increase student awareness of NAPM-Houston, encourage students to develop and expand their knowledge in the field of purchasing and supply chain management, reward outstanding academic achievement in the study of purchasing and supply chain management, increase student awareness of the practical applications of purchasing principles and supply chain management within actual organizations.
