NAPM Houston Business Report
The NAPM-Houston Business Report
has been published monthly by NAPM-Houston, Inc. since January
1995.
The report surveys its
contributors monthly in order to determine the direction of the
Houston economy on a month-to-month comparative basis. It asks
each respondent to indicate the direction their organization is
currently going (up, down, same) compared to the prior month in
each of the following eight operational categories:
- Sales
- Production
- Employment
- Purchases
- Price Paid (production
materials and capital purchases)
- Lead Times (from suppliers)
- Purchased Materials Inventory
(raw materials and supplies)
- Finished Goods Inventory
From the contributor data an index
figure is calculated for each category and the PMI (Purchasing
Managers Index) is then developed from a category weighting
system.
The resulting data, along with the
publisher’s analysis and a few comments from survey
contributors are distributed to all NAPM-Houston members, all
paid subscribers, media and certain economics interests on the
tenth of each month.
Contributors to the NAPM-Houston
Business Report number over eighty Houston area entities engaged
in manufacturing, oil and gas, fabrication, engineering and
construction, petrochemical production, health care, financial
services, distribution, business services and government, among
others. It is the intent of the report to represent, as closely
as possible, a cross section of the Houston industrial business
community.
Information from the report is
used by the Greater Houston Partnership, the Bureau of Labor
Statistics, the Federal Reserve Bank, the Houston Chronicle and
several other local, regional and national organizations to help
in their analyses of the direction of the Houston area economy.
